Birmingham’s existing and in-progress Neighbourhood Plans
Read more about the groups involved in Neighbourhood Planning across Birmingham.
At the time of the launch of this toolkit (May 2023), Birmingham had two Neighbourhood Plans (NPs) that had been brought into force. In July 2023 it had a third.
When an NP has been ‘brought into force’ this means it has gone through all the formal stages needed to make it a legal document. Council planners must consider its policies when making planning decisions for the Neighbourhood Area covered by the NP.

The map shows the different areas, and different stages, of Neighbourhood Plans (NPs) in Birmingham.
There are three areas of Birmingham (marked red on the map) where NPs have been brought into force:
Balsall Heath (2015—2031)
Beeches, Booths and Barr (3Bs) (2020-2031)
Jewellery Quarter (2023—)
There are two areas (marked in yellow on the map) where Neighbourhood Planning is underway and the NPs have not yet been brought into force:
Soho and Handsworth
and
Small Heath.
