Small Heath
Neighbourhood Plan updates
Small Heath has a designated Neighbourhood Planning Forum and Neighbourhood Plan area boundary
In Small Heath, residents made an application to Birmingham City Council (BCC) to have their Neighbourhood Planning Forum and NP area boundary formally designated.
Their application went out to public consultation for six weeks, until Thursday 20 June 2024. It was published on the BCC website, inviting community feedback. Following this consultation period, the council’s Deputy Leader, Councillor Sharon Thompson, the Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills, approved the application.
This means both the Small Heath Neighbourhood Planning Forum (SHNPF) and its suggested NP area boundary have been designated (formally recognised).
You can read a summary of the community feedback at the BCC website.
BCC is currently supporting the SHNPF with the next stages in creating the NP for Small Heath, which will have themes that include:
Local planning (incorporating housing and employment)
Open spaces and green spaces
Planning and development of the Coventry Road
Reduction of poverty and promotion of opportunities for residents and businesses
Youth initiatives and development.
The process continues to be open to all residents and community members.

At the Small Heath Neighbourhood Plan website, you can find out how local people have been working together to:
Help define Small Heath and its community
“We want to define what residents of Small Heath believe are the boundaries of their area, regardless of traditional definitions and local elections.”Discuss housing and planning in Small Heath “Appropriate housing and planning is a long-term strategy of the Small Heath Neighbourhood Plan. The NP group are goalsetting and consulting on visions and concerns for Small Heath.”
Have your say on community projects and issues
“Small Heath NP wants to hear about good local projects and initiatives that could all form part of the wider scope of the NP. Including festivals, cultural events and food banks.”

All we want to do is to make the locality better. That's it. There's no other agenda.
